Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir


Bergrún is a composer based in Oakland, CA/Reykjavík, Iceland. Often her work focuses on personally designed notation systems such as animated or graphic notation to recreate perceived metaphysical structures that have a basis in empirical relations and causality.

Works by Bergrún have been performed in Australia, the UK and widely in Scandinavia by groups such as The Oslo Philharmonic (NO), Decibel (AUS), The Iceland Symphony Orchestra (IS), Avanti! Chamber Orchestra (FI) and Kúbus (IS) amongst others. Her work has taken place within festivals such as Tectonics Music Festival Glasgow and Reykjavík, Cycle Music and Art Festival, Dark Music Days, Only Connect and Nordic Music Days. As a performer Bergrún has a diverse background, having been a touring and recording musician for Icelandic bands Sigur Rós and Björk, as well as performing new music with Fengjastrútur Ensemble. Bergrún serves as the Icelandic chairman for the board of Young Nordic Music Festival (UNM) and is a member of composers' collective S.L.Á.T.U.R.
