Charles McGraw was born & raised in Kansas City KS, where he had an early interest in classical music and began playing violin at the age of 6.

He received a B.A in music composition from The University of Missouri Kansas-City (UMKC) in 2015, where he had studied with Jim Mobberley, Chen Yi, Rome Prize winner Paul Rudy, and Pulitzer Prize winner Zhou Long.

Mr. McGraw chose to attend Mills because of his interest in Minimalist and repetitious music, and from his fascination with the composer Steve Reich, a Mills alumni.
